Can We Afford to Pay to Achieve the MDGs?

This Forum took place on 15 February 2007, from 1:15-2:45pm in Conference Room 8, at UN headquarters, New York. At the forum, Mr. Robert Vos, Director of Development Policy and Analysis Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), made a presentation entitled: Can we afford to pay to achieve the MDGs? His presentation was followed by a discussion. The forum was chaired by Mr. Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Assistant Secretary-General, UNDESA.
The following questions were addressed:
- How much will the MDGs cost?
- What scope is there for domestic resource mobilization to finance the MDGs?
- What is the absorptive capacity to spend foreign aid effectively?
- What are the macroeconomic trade-offs when trying to achieve the MDGs?
- How severe are Dutch disease effects?
