UNU Magazine Wins 2008 Weblog Award

UNU's OurWorld 2.0 web magazine has won the 2008 Weblog Award for Best Blog Design. In the field of 10 finalists, Our World 2.0 received 31% of the votes, 4% more than the second-place finisher.

The Weblog Awards are the world's largest blog competition. In 2008, more than 933,000 votes were cast in 48 categories over seven days of voting.

Our World 2.0, launched by the UNU Media Studio in July 2008, explores the interconnections between climate change, peak oil and food security. It showcases articles written by the UNU academic faculty and other contributors, as well as video briefs that includes stories from around the world and Japan. All articles are in English and Japanese.

The goal of Our World 2.0 is to inspire people to learn about these pressing global issues and to inspire people to act and bring about the innovative changes that we need in order to respond to the climate, energy and food challenges. The design philosophy underpinning the Our World 2.0 webzine is one of collaboration and sharing of both content and knowledge.

The site is built in an open source platform called Wordpress and all content is licensed under Creative Commons. Photos on the web magazine are provided by the Flickr community. The UNU videos accessible via Youtube and Vimeo.
